Nigeria: Boko Haram - Red Cross Appeals for More Assistance

The Cameroon Red Cross has honoured some institutions and individual donors for their generosity towards the vulnerable displaced populations of the Boko Haram insurgency in the Far North Region. In a "thank you" ceremony organised at the movement's headquarter in Yaounde yesterday August 19, 2015, the President of Cameroon Red Cross, William AurélienEtekiMboumoua, urged the donors and other goodwill persons and institutions to continue with their generosity towards the vulnerable.
The Cameroon Red Cross, he said, proceeded to distribute diverse goods that were donated to the over 40,000 displaced persons in Maroua, Mora and Mokolo. In line with the humanitarian movement's slogan of "help us to help those in need", EtekiMboumoua solicited for more assistance of vulnerable populations in need. Yesterday's ceremony that held on the International Day for Humanitarian Assistance, was marked with the award of certificates for humanitarian aid and the installation of the committee in charge for the collection of donations led by Feutse Roger.
The President underlined the importance of the ceremony which he stated is in acknowledgment of those who donated to the Red Cross to help them accomplish their mission. The Red Cross, he added, is not insensible to the heinous acts posed by the Boko Haram terrorist in the border localities of the Far North Region, thus it is incumbent on the humanitarian organisation to support the 40,000 displaced victims. The committee is thus put in place to sensitise and solicit assistance from generous institutions and individuals.A video projection of Red Cross humanitarian activities was also displayed during the brief ceremony.
